1. Description
The AT45DB041B is an SPI compatible serial interface Flash memory ideally suited
for a wide variety of digital voice-, image-, program code- and data-storage applications.
Its 4,325,376 bits of memory are organized as 2048 pages of 264 bytes each. In
addition to the main memory, the AT45DB041B also contains two SRAM data buffers
of 264 bytes each.
The buffers allow receiving of data while a page in the main memory is being reprogrammed,
as well as reading or writing a continuous data stream. EEPROM emulation
(bit or byte alterability) is easily handled with a self-contained three step Read-Modify-
Write operation. Unlike conventional Flash memories that are accessed randomly with
multiple address lines and a parallel interface, the DataFlash uses a SPI serial interface
to sequentially access its data. DataFlash supports SPI mode 0 and mode 3. The
simple serial interface facilitates hardware layout, increases system reliability, minimizes
switching noise, and reduces package size and active pin count. The device is
optimized for use in many commercial and industrial applications where high density,
low pin count, low voltage, and low power are essential. The device operates at clock
frequencies up to 20 MHz with a typical active read current consumption of 4 mA.
To allow for simple in-system reprogrammability, the AT45DB041B does not require
high input voltages for programming. The device operates from a single power supply,
2.5V to 3.6V or 2.7V to 3.6V, for both the program and read operations. The
AT45DB041B is enabled through the chip select pin (CS) and accessed via a threewire
interface consisting of the Serial Input (SI), Serial Output (SO), and the Serial
Clock (SCK).
All programming cycles are self-timed, and no separate erase cycle is required before
programming.

Description
The AT32UC3A is a complete System-On-Chip microcontroller based on the AVR32 UC RISC
processor running at frequencies up to 66 MHz. AVR32 UC is a high-performance 32-bit RISC
microprocessor core, designed for cost-sensitive embedded applications, with particular emphasis
on low power consumption, high code density and high performance.
The processor implements a Memory Protection Unit (MPU) and a fast and flexible interrupt controller
for supporting modern operating systems and real-time operating systems. Higher
computation capabilities are achievable using a rich set of DSP instructions.
The AT32UC3A incorporates on-chip Flash and SRAM memories for secure and fast access.
For applications requiring additional memory, an external memory interface is provided on
AT32UC3A0 derivatives.
The Peripheral Direct Memory Access controller (PDCA) enables data transfers between peripherals
and memories without processor involvement. PDCA drastically reduces processing
overhead when transferring continuous and large data streams between modules within the
MCU.
The PowerManager improves design flexibility and security: the on-chip Brown-Out Detector
monitors the power supply, the CPU runs from the on-chip RC oscillator or from one of external
oscillator sources, a Real-Time Clock and its associated timer keeps track of the time.
The Timer/Counter includes three identical 16-bit timer/counter channels. Each channel can be
independently programmed to perform frequency measurement, event counting, interval measurement,
pulse generation, delay timing and pulse width modulation.
The PWM modules provides seven independent channels with many configuration options
including polarity, edge alignment and waveform non overlap control. One PWM channel can
trigger ADC conversions for more accurate close loop control implementations.

Overview
The AT89LP51/52 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with 4K/8K
bytes of In-System Programmable Flash program memory and 256 bytes of Flash data memory.
The device is manufactured using Atmel's high-density nonvolatile memory technology and is
compatible with the industry-standard 80C52 instruction set.
The AT89LP51/52 is built around an enhanced CPU core that can fetch a single byte from memory
every clock cycle. In the classic 8051 architecture, each fetch requires 6 clock cycles, forcing
instructions to execute in 12, 24 or 48 clock cycles. In the AT89LP51/52 CPU, instructions need
only 1 to 4 clock cycles providing 6 to 12 times more throughput than the standard 8051. Seventy
percent of instructions need only as many clock cycles as they have bytes to execute, and
most of the remaining instructions require only one additional clock. The enhanced CPU core is
capable of 20 MIPS throughput whereas the classic 8051 CPU can deliver only 4 MIPS at the
same current consumption. Conversely, at the same throughput as the classic 8051, the new
CPU core runs at a much lower speed and thereby greatly reducing power consumption and
EMI. The AT89LP51/52 also includes a compatibility mode that will enable classic 12 clock per
machine cycle operation for true timing compatibility with AT89S51/52.
The AT89LP51/52 provides the following standard features: 4K/8K bytes of In-System
Programmable Flash program memory, 256 bytes of Flash data memory, 256 bytes of RAM, up
to 36 I/O lines, three 16-bit timer/counters, a programmable watchdog timer, a full-duplex serial
port, an on-chip crystal oscillator, an internal 1.8432 MHz auxiliary oscillator, and a four-level,
six-vector interrupt system. A block diagram is shown in Figure 2-1.

• Low-Power AVR Microcontroller Allows Operation Down To 1.8V
Introduction
This application note describes a single-phase power/energy meter with tamper
logic. The design measures active power, voltage, and current in a single-phase
distribution environment. It differs from ordinary single-phase meters in that it uses
two current transducers to measure active power in both live and neutral wires.
This enables the meter to detect, signal, and continue to measure reliably even
when subject to external attempts of tampering.
The heart of the meter is an AVR microcontroller. All measurements are carried out
in the digital domain and measurement results are available in the form of
frequency-modulated pulse outputs and as plain-text values, accessible over the
USART interface. This enables the design to be used in cost-effective applications
based on mechanical display counters. Alternatively, the design easily fits more
computerized applications with features such as remote reading (AMR), demand
recording, multiple tariffs, and other.
A prototype built for 230V and 10A operation showed better than 1% accuracy over
a dynamic range of 500:1. With careful PCB design and following the guidelines
given at the end of this document the accuracy can be further increased. The meter
is easily configured to fit any other voltage and current settings.
